Thulelah Blessing Takane is currently a Head of Faculty for Education at the Independent Institute of Education and is completing her PhD in Primary Mathematics Education with the University of the Witwatersrand and is associated with the Wits Maths Connect Primary Project.  She is passionate about practical education and research which are influenced by her personal experiences of a poor educational background and by the poor performance of students especially in primary schools.  She is a founder of Destiny Stars Foundation, an organisation which focuses on career guidance and interventions in Mathematics. Her interests also involve mentoring of in and out of school youth and university students. She has a National Diploma in Electrical Engineering and 5 years of working experience in the field. She has completed a Post-graduate Marketing Management course. She has obtained a Post Graduate Certificate in Education and a Masters in Primary Mathematics Education. She is a recipient of the Mamokgethi Phakeng Award for the most distinguished black woman Masters student in the field of mathematics education and a winner of 3rd prize in the First National 3 Minute Thesis Competition and (UFS 2015). She has serves as a post-graduate student representative at Wits University and in the Wits School of Education Research Committee. She is often asked to speak at career events and various community development events.
